Allegiant Air — official cabin limits
| Allowance | Max dimensions (inches — the airline's own figure) Second line: our conversion | Max weight |
|---|---|---|
| Free personal item | 18 × 14 × 8 in ≈ 45.7 × 35.5 × 20.3 cm | Not stated |
| Carry-on | 22 × 16 × 10 in ≈ 55.8 × 40.6 × 25.4 cm | Not stated |
How to read these numbers — Allegiant Air publishes these limits in inches — the unit its airport sizers are built to. The centimetre figures are our own conversion, always rounded down. Airlines that print both units often print two figures that don't agree with each other — sometimes looser, sometimes stricter. When they disagree we go by the airline's own unit and round the other one down. Packing to our number keeps you inside the real limit.
What to expect
Allegiant includes one personal item free on every fare, and it is the only bag you get without paying. The limit is 18 × 14 × 8 in (45.7 × 35.5 × 20.3 cm), including wheels and handles, and it must fit completely under the seat in front of you. There is no weight limit. A well-chosen bag at this size often removes any need to pay for the overhead carry-on at all.
Soft bag vs hard case
When the personal item is your whole free allowance, every inch counts. Allegiant's 18 × 14 × 8 in is measured with wheels and handles and must slide fully under the seat, where the space changes with the aircraft and the row. A soft bag packs to the edges and squashes into the footwell; a rigid case built to exactly 18 × 14 × 8 in has no give, and an oversized personal item draws an airport fee.
Boarding tips
- On the base fare this is your only free bag, so pack it as the whole trip rather than as the extra.
- It must fit completely under the seat in front of you, so soft bags that squash down beat rigid cases.
- There is no weight limit, only the 18 × 14 × 8 in size, wheels and handles included.
- If it is too big, it travels as the paid carry-on (22 × 16 × 10 in) instead, or is checked if larger.
- Allegiant charges airport fees for oversized personal items, so measure at the widest point before you go.
