Transavia — official cabin limits

Allowance Max dimensions (cm — the airline's own figure) Second line: our conversion Max weight
Free personal item 40 × 30 × 20 cm≈ 15.7 × 11.8 × 7.8 in 10 kg≈ 22 lb
Cabin bag 55 × 40 × 25 cm≈ 21.6 × 15.7 × 9.8 in 10 kg≈ 22 lb

How to read these numbersTransavia publishes these limits in centimetres. The inch figures are our own conversion, always rounded down, never up. Airlines that print both units often print two figures that don't agree with each other — sometimes looser, sometimes stricter. When they disagree we go by the airline's own unit and round the other one down. Packing to our number keeps you inside the real limit.

What to expect

Transavia runs the Ryanair model with one twist: the free 40 × 30 × 20 cm (≈ 15.7 × 11.8 × 7.8 in) under-seat bag and the paid 55 × 40 × 25 cm (≈ 21.6 × 15.7 × 9.8 in) cabin bag share a single 10 kg (≈ 22 lb) weight allowance between them. Dimensions include wheels and handles, bags are checked at the airport, and anything too big or too heavy pays a gate fee from €70 and goes into the hold.

Soft bag vs hard case

Transavia verifies size and weight at the airport, so a soft, frameless bag has the same edge as on Ryanair: it compresses into the 40 × 30 × 20 cm (≈ 15.7 × 11.8 × 7.8 in) under-seat space. And with 10 kg (≈ 22 lb) shared across both bags, every gram of bag structure — frames, hard shells, heavy wheels — is weight you can't pack.

Boarding tips

  • The 10 kg (≈ 22 lb) limit covers your hand luggage and cabin bag together — weigh them as a pair, not one by one.
  • Book the cabin bag in advance; at the gate it's the fee from €70 and the bag goes into the hold.
  • Smart and Max fares include the cabin bag and Priority Boarding — on the basic fare you only have the under-seat bag.
  • An umbrella, a walking stick and one duty-free bag are allowed on top of the free allowance.

Common questions

Is a cabin bag free on Transavia?

+
No. Only the 40 × 30 × 20 cm (≈ 15.7 × 11.8 × 7.8 in) under-seat bag is always included. The 55 × 40 × 25 cm (≈ 21.6 × 15.7 × 9.8 in) cabin bag must be added for a fee — or comes included with the Smart and Max fares, along with Priority Boarding.

Does the 10 kg limit apply per bag or in total?

+
In total. Hand luggage alone may weigh up to 10 kg (≈ 22 lb); if you add a cabin bag, both bags combined may still weigh no more than 10 kg.

What happens if my bag is too big at the gate?

+
You pay the Gate Luggage Fee, starting at €70, and the bag travels in the hold. If that happens, move electronics and batteries — phone, laptop, power bank — into your under-seat bag first: they're not allowed in the hold.

Does a backpack count as Transavia hand luggage?

+
Yes — Transavia's own examples are a small backpack or handbag. It has to fit within 40 × 30 × 20 cm (≈ 15.7 × 11.8 × 7.8 in) including wheels, handles and full pockets, and go under the seat in front of you.

What is Vilanera?

+
Vilanera designs premium backpacks, bags and accessories for the way you dress — parent-aware on demand. We built this checker because we kept doing the same maths ourselves: every airline sets its own limits, publishes them in its own units, and changes them without warning. So we read each carrier's official policy at the source, stamp it with the date we checked, and let you measure your own bag against it — free, and with no sign-up.
