How to read these numbers — JetBlue publishes these limits in inches — the unit its airport sizers are built to. The centimetre figures are our own conversion, always rounded down. Airlines that print both units often print two figures that don't agree with each other — sometimes looser, sometimes stricter. When they disagree we go by the airline's own unit and round the other one down. Packing to our number keeps you inside the real limit.
What to expect
JetBlue's personal item is 17 × 13 × 8 in (43.1 × 33.0 × 20.3 cm) and must fit under the seat in front of you. Unlike the ultra-low-cost carriers, JetBlue gives it to you alongside a free carry-on on every fare, Blue Basic included, so the personal item is rarely your only bag. There is no weight limit, only that you can stow it under the seat.
Soft bag vs hard case
Because JetBlue also includes a free carry-on, the personal item is the extra rather than the whole allowance, which takes the pressure off. It still has to fit fully under the seat in front of you at 17 × 13 × 8 in, and that under-seat space shrinks in a bulkhead or exit row. A soft bag that flattens beats a rigid case when the footwell is tight.
Boarding tips
- The personal item is free on every fare, and so is a full carry-on, so this is usually your second bag rather than your only one.
- It must fit under the seat in front of you at 17 × 13 × 8 in; measure at the widest point.
- There is no weight limit, only that you can stow it yourself.
- If your personal item is oversized, it can travel as the free carry-on (22 × 14 × 9 in) instead.
