Where Air France contradicts itself

- Air France prints its cabin bag as 55 × 35 × 25 cm and 21.7 × 13.8 × 9.9 in side by side, but 55 cm is 21.6 in and 35 cm is 13.7 in, so its inch figures are rounded up and read slightly looser than its own centimetres. We publish the centimetres, the airline's own limit, and our own rounded-down inches.

How to read these numbers — Air France publishes these limits in centimetres. The inch figures are our own conversion, always rounded down, never up. Airlines that print both units often print two figures that don't agree with each other — sometimes looser, sometimes stricter. When they disagree we go by the airline's own unit and round the other one down. Packing to our number keeps you inside the real limit.
What to expect
Air France includes a small bag of 40 × 30 × 15 cm on every fare, plus a cabin bag of 55 × 35 × 25 cm whose availability depends on your Economy fare: a Basic fare gives the small bag only, while other Economy fares include one cabin bag. Pockets, wheels and handles count toward the size. There is no per-bag weight limit, but in Economy the cabin bag and small bag together must stay under 12 kg (18 kg in Business and La Premiere). Air France checks bags before boarding.
Soft bag vs hard case
Air France's weight rule is a combined one, not per bag: in Economy the cabin bag and the small bag together cap at 12 kg, so a heavy small bag eats into the cabin bag. The 55 × 35 × 25 cm cabin size includes pockets, wheels and handles, and Air France measures bags before boarding. A soft, compressible bag has the edge at the sizer over a rigid case built to the exact limit.
Boarding tips
- The small bag is included on every fare; the cabin bag depends on the Economy fare, and a Basic fare gives the small bag only.
- On a Basic fare you can add the cabin bag by buying the Hand Baggage option, or bring it free if you are Flying Blue Gold or above.
- The 12 kg limit in Economy is the combined weight of the cabin bag and the small bag, not a per-bag figure; it rises to 18 kg in Business and La Premiere.
- Pockets, wheels and handles count toward the 55 × 35 × 25 cm size, and Air France checks bags before boarding.
- If your seat is in an exit row, the small bag must go in the overhead bin rather than under the seat.
