Eurowings — official cabin limits

Allowance Max dimensions (cm — the airline's own figure) Second line: our conversion Max weight
Free personal item 40 × 30 × 25 cm≈ 15.7 × 11.8 × 9.8 in Not stated
Carry-on 55 × 40 × 23 cm≈ 21.6 × 15.7 × 9.0 in 8 kg≈ 17 lb

How to read these numbersEurowings publishes these limits in centimetres. The inch figures are our own conversion, always rounded down, never up. Airlines that print both units often print two figures that don't agree with each other — sometimes looser, sometimes stricter. When they disagree we go by the airline's own unit and round the other one down. Packing to our number keeps you inside the real limit.

What to expect

Eurowings gives every fare a free small bag of 40 × 30 × 25 cm that fits under the seat, from BASIC up. The larger cabin bag of 55 × 40 × 23 cm, up to 8 kg, is included on SMART and BIZclass but costs extra on the BASIC fare, from about 18 EUR. Eurowings checks the size and number of bags for every passenger, and an oversized bag goes in the hold for a fee. Measure at the widest point before you fly.

Soft bag vs hard case

On the BASIC fare the free allowance is the small underseat bag, so the real question is whether you pay for the 55 × 40 × 23 cm cabin bag or pack into the 40 × 30 × 25 cm small one. Eurowings enforces both the size and the number of bags at the gate with a sizer, and the cabin bag also carries an 8 kg limit. A soft bag that compresses into the sizer has the edge over a rigid case at the same dimensions.

Boarding tips

  • The small underseat bag is free on every fare, including BASIC. The larger cabin bag is included only on SMART and BIZclass, or paid on BASIC from about 18 EUR / 16 GBP depending on the route.
  • Add the cabin bag while booking or later via the app rather than at the airport, where it costs more.
  • The 8 kg limit applies to the large cabin bag; Eurowings publishes no weight limit for the small bag.
  • Eurowings checks the size and number of bags for every passenger, so measure at the widest point.
  • An infant on your lap adds a second small underseat bag.

What is Vilanera?

+
Vilanera designs premium backpacks, bags and accessories for the way you dress — parent-aware on demand. We built this checker because we kept doing the same maths ourselves: every airline sets its own limits, publishes them in its own units, and changes them without warning. So we read each carrier's official policy at the source, stamp it with the date we checked, and let you measure your own bag against it — free, and with no sign-up.
